L’ORCHIDÉE

Spacious in size, L’Orchidée features a beautiful Bernese wooden floor and a stunning fireplace. Its windows overlook the Auberge’s park and the Jura mountains.

The wallpaper adorning the wall is the work of Christiane Hamacher. Fascinated by the plant kingdom and intrigued by the centuries-long obsession with orchids on our continent, the artist photographed many wild species in Switzerland. She then entrusted her images to artificial intelligence, which dissected the flowers to produce a synthetic and dreamlike vision, bordering on abstraction.

On a shelf, additional documentation complements the artist’s work.

In the park, there are rumors that native orchids are thriving.

LA MÉZIÈRES

The Mézières room, with its dark and enveloping tones, faces west. It takes its name from the village of Mézières in the canton of Fribourg, home to a magnificent Wallpaper Museum housed in its castle. Olivier Suter collaborated with the museum to create the artistic installation that brings the room to life and invites you to choose your own décor during your stay at Aux 4 Vents.

By pressing a button, you can scroll through reproductions of three of the stunning wallpapers that, in Mézières, make up a collection unique in Europe. Captivated by their beauty, you may very well feel the urge to visit the originals in the Fribourg countryside.

LA MÉZIÈRES

La chambre Mézières, aux teintes sombres et enveloppantes, est orientée vers l’Ouest. Elle doit son nom à celui du village fribourgeois qui, en son château, abrite un somptueux Musée du Papier Peint. Olivier Suter a collaboré avec ce dernier pour créer l’intervention artistique qui anime la chambre, et vous propose de choisir votre décor durant votre séjour Aux 4 Vents.

En appuyant sur un bouton, il vous est possible de faire défiler des reproductions de trois des merveilleux papiers peints qui, à Mézières, forment un ensemble unique en Europe. Fasciné par leur beauté, vous aurez sans doute envie d’aller en contempler les originaux dans la campagne fribourgeoise.

LA BELLE ÉTOILE

The Belle Étoile room is generously sized and features a beautiful tiled stove. Bathed in light, it faces south, offering views of the Old Town of Fribourg and the Prealps.

This is the room that houses the famous bathtub on rails of the 4 Vents—a playful attraction created by Fribourg artist Olivier Suter at the opening of the Auberge in 1998, with the technical help of Serge Crausaz.

Here, you can just let go. Everything is automatic. Press a button: the window opens, the bathtub slides out, and you find yourself above the park—enjoying the most romantic bath, day or night.

LES RÊVES

The Rêves room, calm and serene, overlooks the park, the Old Town of Fribourg, and the mountains.

The artistic intervention that brings it to life is the work of Olivier Suter and dates back to 1998.

On the bedside tables, small vials—similar to those used for scientific specimens in natural history museums—await you. In the morning, they allow you to share your dreams, which will soon join those of other sleepers in the beautiful display cases lining one of the room’s walls.

LA CULOTTÉE

On the second floor of the Auberge, La Culottée offers a lovely view of the Jura and the sunset.

On one of its walls stands a monumental wallpaper by Delphine Reist. For the hotel, the Geneva-based artist created a pattern that—at first glance—appears to show giant flowers. But a closer look reveals something more ambiguous. The base of the stems is actually made up of oversized, almost abstract, women’s underwear. The eye then rises to the top of the composition, where fine lace suggests petals and stamens.

A woman’s creation—where flowers (of the male?) become an erotic poem.

LES BONS OISEAUX

Located on the north side, the Oiseaux room overlooks the countryside and, in the distance, the Jura mountain range.

On the wall, Olivier Suter has reinterpreted one of those wallpapers that, popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, often adorned aristocratic and bourgeois homes.

On the tapestry, within a delicate weave of flowers and foliage, birds flutter, feed their young, or mate. When night falls, they watch over you kindly as you sleep.

LE BOUQUET

The room Le Bouquet is spacious and bright, offering a magnificent view of the Auberge’s park, the cathedral of Fribourg, and the Prealps.

The artistic intervention featured in the room is the work of Isabelle Krieg. Since 2019, the Fribourg-born artist has been evolving a single, unique bouquet in her home. Week after week, she adds new flowers and removes the wilted ones. Week after week, she captures the composition through photography.

On the walls and windows of the room, you’ll find three years of this bouquet—one hundred and fifty-seven still lifes that, season after season, act as a still mirror to the flowers blooming in the garden of the 4 Vents.

Built a little later than the manor, which houses the hotel rooms on the other side of the restaurant, the Dépendance is a charming small house also listed as a cultural heritage property.

Perfect for families, the Dépendance offers four beds, is equipped with a private kitchen, and has a lovely garden just a few meters from the pool, hidden from view.

Spread over two floors, it has its own private entrance.
