Our History

Built between the late 17th and the first half of the 18th century, the Grandfey manor, later joined by an outbuilding, was originally a patrician country house. Along with around thirty similar residences and castles, it formed the golden belt of Fribourg under the Ancien Régime.

Owned by several successive aristocratic families until the mid-20th century, and later by industrialist Burrus, the estate was purchased in 1997 by Res Balzli who, together with Catherine Portmann, added a restaurant to the historic buildings to create Auberge aux 4 Vents. It is a welcoming place open to all, celebrating numerous artistic creations both inside and throughout its splendid park.

Donated in 2019 to the Fondation Pays des Merveilles, Auberge aux 4 Vents was fully renovated in 2025 with full respect for its historical heritage.
